“What gets Fans Engaged?” asks Billboard, who attended the South by Southwest conference in 2012. Billboard covers how SXSW explores methods beyond facebook.

Dan Rys, contributor for Billboard attended the event and covered the panel in this article. Highlights include panelists’ views on innovative marketing strategies, live-streamed performances, out of the box thinking, event-based shows and connection with a band’s audience.

Lynda McLaughlin and Valerie Gurka of LYVA Music organized the panel with additional panelists Lou Plaia, Founder of ReverbNation, Evan Lowenstein, Founder of StageIt.com and Laura Wilson, Talent Buyer of World Cafe Live. The panelists each brought very different perspectives to the table in the categories of artist technology tools, live venue marketing and live streaming video solutions.

McLaughlin and Gurka conducted a proprietary study which was shared at the panel and answers questions about how and why fans attend shows and return as loyal fans. Engagement was most found through facebook, email, live video streaming as the top three engagement methods.
